What are Piezo Crystals?

Piezo crystals are silicone elements, generating an electrical signal when force is applied to them. They are very effective in making respiration effort sensors, where respiration movements of the chest or abdomen stress the crystal to generate a small voltage proportional to the movement or tension in the elastic band around the body.
